Medicare Made Simple
Turning 65 can be an exciting milestone! It’s our mission at Van Holland Insurance & Retirement Planning to help you understand the complexity of Medicare and the plan options for additional coverage and benefits that may be available to you.
Medicare serves as health insurance for individuals 65 or older. However, you may be eligible to enroll in Medicare earlier if you have a disability, End-Stage Renal Disease (ERSD) or ALS (also called Lou Gehrig’s disease).
As you are approaching your 65th birthday, you will be triggered into a 7-month initial enrollment period (IEP) where you can enroll in Medicare Parts A and B (Original Medicare). The IEP spans 3 months prior to turning 65, your birth month, and the following 3 months.
While some individuals are automatically enrolled in Medicare, others must actively apply, depending on when you started getting retirement or disability benefits from Social Security before turning 65.
Medicare is broken down into four parts:
Part A: Hospital Insurance
Part B: Medical Insurance
Part C: Medicare Advantage (MA) plans
Part D: Prescription drug coverage
Schedule a meeting with one of our agents and we can help guide you through your exciting journey into the world of Medicare.
